Pep Guardiola responded to Manchester City's six-game winless streak by removing goalkeeper Ederson from the squad for Sunday's Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield, a source told ESPN.
The reigning champions had lost three straight Premier League games and were eight points behind league leaders Liverpool heading into the match. On Wednesday, City ended their five-game losing streak with a 3-3 draw at home to Feyenoord in the Champions League. City were leading 3-0 with 15 minutes left before a series of defensive errors allowed Feyenoord to score three late goals to tie the game. And Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson paid the price for being responsible for Feyenoord's
equalizer -- Ederson missed the ball while running out of the penalty area to clear -- and was left out in favor of substitute Stephane Ortega. Guardiola also left out defender Josko Gvardiol and central defender Ruben Dias returned to the team after a long injury absence.
Ederson was close to a move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer before deciding to stay at the Etihad, but has been City's regular first-choice player since joining from Benfica for £35 million in 2017. But the 31-year-old Ortega is now the priority as Guardiola tries to get City's struggling season back on track.
